Scarlett Letter

ghost world is such a fucking great movie, i am going to have to go out and buy the DVD (belonged to the ex). for those of you living in the bay area, you might want to check this out.

the opening bollywood song is on eternal shuffle on my ipod. now that's fun dancin'. is also likely to pull you out of a bad mood.

what happened to scarlett johannson...the way she turned out. ew. she was the epitome of cool in ghost world and lost in translation. i realize she was playing roles in those movies, but i find the separation of character and "reality" appallingly vast. this doesn't mean i expect jake gyllenhaal to be gay because of brokeback, and totally gross because he's not...those of you who can see fine lines will know what i mean about scarlett.

she's all caught up in her boobs and lips just like everyone else. self-consciousness. selling out. homogenization. Not cool.

I did not like Ghost World. Enid is a mean, self-centered, poser who toys with Seymour and destroys his life for kicks. Her attitude toward the world she inhabits is so filled with a contemptuous superiority that I found it difficult to sit through the film, which I reluctantly did, twice.

Enid clearly hates herself and, in a classic defense mechanism, projects that hate into the world. I found her to be vile and utterly without redemption, and as such I can't stand the film, stylish and hip as it is. (The visual style and the music are wonderful.) Maybe I've been the Seymour to too many Enids?

I agree that Scarlett Johansson's best work seems to be behind her, and I'm not just talking about her ass.

enid is also a teenager. this is why teenagers are dangerous. this is how i was as a teenager. this is why no male adult should ever fuck with a teenage girl.

she will kill your heart and not even feel it.

enid hates everything. as i did. except music. as i did.
