"monstrous cries in the night"

this story, which i found on BoingBoing, makes me incredibly sad. profoundly sad.

"horrible, monstrous cries heard in the night"
"hybrid mutant"
"mystery beast killed by car"

i guess it's one of the loneliest things i've ever heard of.
